Sri Lanka – Indonesia Business Council to Promote Opportunities in Key Sectors Including Tourism and Technology

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the launch of the Sri Lanka – Indonesia Business Council (SLIBC).

The launch of the SLIBC extends the Ceylon Chamber’s global business and industry network, enhancing Member’s access to business and trade promotion opportunities, while promoting economic cooperation between the two countries.

Chief Guest at the launch event Ambassador of Indonesia Her Excellency Dewi Gustina Tobing hailed the Council as a promising initiative to enhance the long-standing political and economic relations between Indonesia and Sri Lanka. She added that the proposed preferential trade agreement and the substantial opportunities it can unlock for both countries. She encouraged Sri Lankan companies to participate in the annual trade expo in Indonesia, to explore potential collaborations.

The newly appointed President of the SLIBC Mr. Vish Govindasamy, Group Managing Director, Sunshine Holdings Ltd. said the Council plans to explore opportunities in technology and tourism. Leveraging opportunities presented by Indonesia’s burgeoning economy which is expected to reach GDP $1.38 trillion in 2023, the Council will also pursue closer collaboration in export sectors such as knitted fabric, lace, tapestry, tea, spices, and apparel, as well as imports from Indonesia including fertilizer, tobacco, rubber, pharmaceutical products, and paper, he added. Indonesia's strength in manufacturing, mining, and its plans to become a major electric battery producer will also present trade and investment opportunities. Plans to organize a business delegation from Sri Lanka to Indonesia which will foster direct connections and business opportunities are currently underway, serving as a platform for businesses from both countries to collaborate and explore opportunities for mutual growth and cooperation.
