The Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council has expressed its concern over the sudden resignation of the Director General of Sri Lanka Customs. 

Ina media release, the Council states, “It is with great regret that we have noted the sudden resignation of the Director General of Sri Lanka Customs.

Mr. Jagath P. Wijeweera has been one of the few Director Generals of Customs who initiated hands on approach in solving importers’ and exporters’ issues spontaneously.

“He was also spearheading the Customs initiatives on e-Commerce and rendered an enormous service by providing leadership to his team and adopting a balanced approach with all stakeholders.

“We appreciate the efforts of Mr. Wijeweera and acknowledge his straightforwardness, honestly and transparency when dealing with the Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council and its associate members.

“We urge the authorities to ensure that the good work commenced by the Customs will continue in order so that the trade and related services would benefit.”
