Sri Lanka spreads positive vibes via three roadshows in China

Sri Lanka Tourism, as another effort of its promotional campaign organized a series of roadshows in China from 17th to 21 st April, in order to encourage more Chinese tourists to visit Sri Lanka as their top travel destination. The 3 roadshows were held in Beijing (17th April), Guangzhou (19th April) & Shanghai (21st April) respectively.  Each roadshow attracted a large number of Chinese visitors who were keen to gain some valuable information about the Culture, history and the iconic tourist attractions which makes Sri Lanka a popular travel destination, and of the excellent holiday opportunities it has to offer. The roadshows also created an opportunity for the Sri Lankan travel trade to get connected with the Chinese Travel Trade, and get to know more about their travel needs and requirements regarding the destination, while educating the travel trade and the Chinese Media by highlighting the destination attractions at the country presentation. The Sri Lanka delegation consisted of more than 20 Sri Lankan companies, along with Sri Lanka Tourism officials including, Ms. Padma Siriwardana Managing Director of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) , Mr. Thisum Jayasuriya, Chairman , Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB ), Mr. Chinthaka Liyanarachchi (Assistant Director of marketing for China-SLTPB )  and Ms. Achini Dandunnage , senior manager ,(SLCB) .

By conducting interviews with the leading Media establishments and travel agents, spreading the positive message that Sri Lanka was safe and open for tourism. For each roadshow, more than 60 agents from each city attended, and a full media coverage was given to the event from leading Chinese Media Houses who made it a further success.

Another important highlight of these roadshows was that after the reopening of the Chinese Market for tourism, this was the first promotion carried out by SLTPB. Overall it was a major achievement and success for Sri Lanka tourism for attracting a large number of Chinese travel industry participants on their first roadshow series after the reopening of the China market, and position Sri Lanka as a must visit tourist destination to Chinese nationals. The roadshows not only enhanced the visibility of Sri Lanka as an iconic travel destination, but also presenting its dynamic tourism products and attractions among the potential travelers to create future demand.  An MOU was also signed between Union Pay International and Sri Lanka Tourism, targeting the consumers.

Regarding the Cultural and Bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and China , the East Asian country  has always remained  a good friend in terms of support and need. With the increasing number of flights and the reopening of the Chinese market, there will be a lot of potential in attracting Chinese tourists as they are keen to explore new travel & holiday options. With the rising number of Chinese tourist arrivals, it is expected that China is a crucial source market for Sri Lanka in the long run .  It is also one of the leading markets which contributes in bringing a large number of tourists annually. Sri Lanka also received a few Chinese delegations to Sri Lanka this year , which was another encouragement for the Chinese travelers to select Sri Lanka as a 365 day  tourism destination, to suit every holiday need.
