Finally, the fruitful dialog between The Katana Al Obadani Apparels Company Managing Director and the State Minister of Investment Promotion resulted in a positive outcome and avoid international PR downfall for the “Made in Sri Lanka” Brand. According to the Minister, “it is not only damage control yet it has given an opportunity to the re-strengthening ties between Omani investor and the BOI. Further secured employment of more than 400 employees, directly and indirectly, the lively hood of more than 1500 Sri Lankans”
The State Minister of Investment Promotion, Mr. Dilum Amunugama, reached this agreement after meeting at the ministry Wednesday afternoon (10). Mr. Kalfan Al Obadani and Yasir Lahir, Managing Director of Al Obadani Apparels Company, along with Ms. Renuka Weerakone, Director General of the Board of Investments of Sri Lanka participated in this event.
Minister Dilum Amunugama, who expressed his regret on behalf of the Sri Lankan government that a foreign investor has been inconvenienced in this unfortunate incident, also apologized to the Omani investor on behalf of the Sri Lankan people. Considering the present situation, and company logistic requirements Minister advised BOI officials to provide a convenient location to resume operation.
Mr. Amunugama further commented it was revealed in this discussion that this incident is not an isolated incident and that this company has had to face such problems for years and they have complained about this on the last 30th. He also states that a long-term solution will be provided to avoid problems in the future.
