Colombo shares started the fresh week on Monday in positive note as All share price index gained 6.27 points (+0.10%) to close at 6,187.03 while 20-script S&P SL index marginally gained 6.92 points (+0.20%) to close at 3,394.94. Price appreciations in counters such as Carson Cumberbatch (closed at LKR 390.00, +5.4%), Ceylon Tobacco (closed at LKR 1,100.00, +0.9%) and John Keells Holdings (closed at LKR 240.00, +0.8%) contributed positively to the index performances.
Gainers outweighed the losers, 110 to 86, while 55 equities remained unchanged. Cash map declined to 65% from 79%.
Daily market turnover was LKR 816mn. Royal Ceramics (LKR 247mn) positioned at the top of the turn over list followed by John Keells Holdings (LKR 152mn) and Sunshine Holdings (LKR 38mn). Several crossings were recorded in John Keells Holdings (approx. 0.57mn shares at LKR 238.00 per share) and Sunshine Holdings (approx. 1.00mn shares at LKR 30.00 per share). Aggregate value of crossings was 20% of the total market turnover.
Moreover Piramal Glass, Expo Lanka and Lanka IOC managed to attract heavy investor interest during today’s trading session.
Foreign investors continued to be net buyers with net inflow of LKR 160mn. Foreign participation was 12%. Foreign inflows were seen in counters such as John Keells Holdings (LKR 13.3mn), Commercial Bank (LKR 8.1mn) and Ceylon Tobacco (LKR 7.2mn) while outflow was mainly seen in Expo Lanka (LKR 6.9mn).
