The National Logistics Awards (NLA) 2024 took place on 23 October and the Main Ballroom of the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo served as the focal point of an incredible celebration for the Logistics & Freight industry.
This prestigious event, which was hosted by the Sri Lanka Logistics and Freight Forwarders’ Association (SLFFA), honoured outstanding achievements to the logistics sector by bringing together leaders and participants in the business. The awards ceremony, which was supported by 28 important organisations including Sri Lanka Customs and the Ports and Shipping Ministry, emphasised the value of cooperation and acknowledgement in the logistics industry.
The award ceremony honoured individuals who have revolutionised supply chain management in Sri Lanka, and Sunil Malawana the Managing Director of Speedmark Transportation Lanka (PVT) Ltd was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award “Legends of Logistics’’ award. The award was presented to him by the Chief Guest at the event the Hon Minister of Vijitha Herath who is the Cabinet Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation.
Sunil Malawana stands out among a group of esteemed individuals who have profoundly influenced the logistics and freight forwarding sectors. With extensive expertise in freight, logistics and supply chain management, he has significantly contributed to the development of the industry and has brought a substantial amount of foreign exchange to the nation over the years. His leadership has introduced innovative solutions across various logistics models, including 2PL through 5PL.
Mr Malawana’s role extends beyond business; he is a dedicated mentor, guiding the next generation of professionals in the industry. His integrity, reputation, and depth of knowledge have earned him the utmost respect among peers. Over decades, he has navigated numerous challenges, showcasing remarkable resilience and relevance in an ever-evolving field.
Sunil hailed from the city of Ratnapura from the Sabaragamuwa province and in his formative years he immersed himself in the vibrant world of music, where he was a distinguished member of the illustrious Sinhala pop bands, the ‘Moonstones’ and the ‘Super Golden Chimes’. Later, he transitioned into a distinguished career in logistics. He started Speedmark Sri Lanka in 1988 and in over 36 years has adeptly orchestrated Speedmark Sri Lanka’s remarkable transformation from a modest enterprise to a significant player in the logistics industry in Sri Lanka.
