Provides free screenings and awareness across 10 Healthguard outlets in Colombo

Sunshine Holdings PLC, through its community health arm Sunshine Foundation for Good, marked World Diabetes Day with a large-scale free public health initiative titled “Unmask Diabetes 2025.” The activities were conducted across multiple Healthguard outlets in Colombo on 14 and 15 November. The two-day programme focused on increasing awareness on diabetes, promoting early detection, and encouraging healthier lifestyle habits among community members.

Conducted under the Foundation’s Suwa Diviya initiative, the program brought together volunteers, doctors, and nutritionists, with operational support from Healthguard, enabling convenient access to essential free health screenings and expert advice on diabetes management.

Across 10 Healthguard outlets, the programme reached nearly 900 individuals, including office workers, youth, senior citizens, and members of the general public. Participants received free blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, along with professional consultations on diabetes prevention and management. Medical teams offered personalised guidance on nutrition, lifestyle adjustments, and early warning signs to watch for.

Sunshine Holdings Group CEO Shyam Sathasivam said, “Diabetes remains one of Sri Lanka’s most significant and growing health challenges, and meaningful disease management depends on sustained awareness and early detection. Through ‘Unmask Diabetes 2025,’ we focused on taking preventive healthcare directly to communities, making screening accessible and empowering people with practical, medically sound guidance. The response we saw across all locations shows there is a real demand for trusted, community-based health support, and we remain committed to expanding initiatives that strengthen national wellbeing.”

A total of 10 Healthguard outlets were covered under this program and across both days, volunteer teams and healthcare professionals supported walk-in screenings and one-on-one consultations, which participants appreciated for accessibility, professionalism, and the opportunity to better understand their diabetes risk and overall health status.

“Unmask Diabetes 2025” is part of the Sunshine Foundation for Good’s broader CSR agenda, which operates under two pillars: education and healthcare. The initiative falls under Suwa Diviya, the Foundation’s dedicated healthcare pillar focused on delivering preventive care, raising awareness, and supporting healthier communities through sustained health-focused interventions.
