~ Clinched first under Manufacturing Sector – Large Scale Category
Textured Jersey, the region’s premier fabric manufacturer was awarded the winning Gold at the Social Dialogue & Workplace Cooperation (SDE) Awards 2015, held at Nelumpokuna on December 17th 2015. The prestigious SD Excellence awards, Presented by the Social Dialogue & Work place Cooperation Unit of the Department of Labour and Industrial Relations, is the top national accolade for honoring companies for work place harmony. Textured Jersey who clinched first place in the large scale manufacturing category, competed with several leading private and semi-government institutions.
The companies, comprising exclusively of industry leaders in the Estate, Apparel, Manufacturing, and Service sectors, were judged under Small, Medium, and Large categories, by an expert panel of judges. Textured Jersey won in the Large Scale Manufacturing category, whilst MAS Stretch line and Link Natural Products bagged the Silver and Bronze awards respectively.
The Chief Guest at the Awards Ceremony was President Maithripala Sirisena whilst Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations John Senevirathna, State Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations Ravindra Samaraweera, and Secretary to the Ministry of Construction Gotabaya Jayaratne also graced the occasion.
Speaking at the event, CEO of Textured Jersey, Sriyan De Silva Wijeratne said, “The award is a tribute to the entire TJ team and the best practices we have put in place to ensure a proper work environment for our employees. The Awards ceremony culminated with a Drama and Dance sequence titled “Manabandhana Wedawarjana” highlighting the importance of employer, employee relationship and the role of Social Dialogue in the corporate sector. The play written by TJ’s talented staff member Asanka Sayakkara was performed by the Company’s drama team. Several other companies such as Polytex, Maliban, GP garment, MAS Linea also performed at the ceremony.
