Thai Airways has reaffirmed its strong commitment to Sri Lanka, describing the island nation as a key destination in its regional strategy, with growing potential in wellness, cultural, and religious tourism. The airline resumed daily flights between Bangkok and Colombo on March 31, 2024, positioning itself to boost bilateral travel, trade, and investment ties.
“Sri Lanka plays a strategic role in our regional network, with deep cultural and historical links to Thailand,” Thai Airways stated in an official response. “We’re dedicated to enhancing the travel experience with greater convenience and services that support both countries.”
The airline noted that Sri Lanka is increasingly attractive to Thai tourists seeking spiritual and cultural experiences. “The country’s heritage, Buddhist traditions, and eco-tourism offerings resonate with Thai travelers looking for meaningful leisure travel,” it added.
Beyond tourism, Thai Airways emphasized the importance of aviation as a catalyst for economic cooperation. “Sri Lanka’s location in the Indian Ocean, combined with its pro-investment economic reforms, makes it a valuable long-term partner for Thai businesses. Strengthening air connectivity allows easier access to new markets and opportunities,” the airline said.
As part of its broader recovery and expansion strategy, Thai Airways is modernizing its fleet and deepening regional partnerships—including in Sri Lanka—to reinforce its competitive position across South Asia.
