The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels, in collaboration with Andrews the Travel Company in Sri Lanka, hosted a special destination awareness event titled “Explore the Treasures of Sri Lanka” on 5 March 2026 at the Sri Lanka Residence, for a group of luxury travel specialists in Belgium.
The event aimed to promote Sri Lanka as a premier leisure, wellness, and MICE destination and one of the “safest” and “stable” countries in the world to cater top-tier tourists, which has been reflected by many international travel endorsements.
Ambassador Chandana Weerasena pointed out that the world tourism industry is always vulnerable to both man-made and natural disasters. Connectivity and security, the industry's key pillars, now face unprecedented challenges. However, Sri Lanka has proven its resilience, and tourists have always been protected, safe and connected. Thus, the Ambassador invited the tour operators and travel agents to promote Sri Lanka among high-end travellers in Europe with increased confidence.
Minister (Commercial) of the Embassy, Thavishya Mullegamgoda, presented Sri Lanka’s multifaceted tourism offerings. Her presentation highlighted the country’s sun-kissed beaches, UNESCO World Heritage sites, wildlife safaris, wellness retreats, adventure experiences and MICE & wedding tourism segments, capturing the audience’s interest and generating enthusiasm to market Sri Lanka as a must-visit destination.
Business Development Manager of Andrews the Travel Company, Shanil Kariyawasam, presented an overview of the company and its new tourism offerings. He also highlighted luxury accommodation options for high-end travellers in Sri Lanka and curated travel experiences the company provides for visitors.
The evening's networking session gave participants the opportunity to interact with Embassy officials and Andrews the Travel Company to discuss focused future engagements in the tourism sector in detail.
Guests then joined an authentic Sri Lankan dinner, which was a first-time experience for many attendees. The traditional cuisine was widely praised, providing guests with a true taste of Sri Lankan hospitality and culture.
