According to the latest data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) the tourism arrivals in August 2019 have increased to 143,587 from 115,701 in July 2019. This is an increase of 24% compared to the 115,701 arrivals in July 2019.
But in comparison to August last year, there was a decline of 28.3% when the arrivals were 200,359.
However, tourist arrivals have been gradually increasing following the Easter Sunday attacks. Year-on-Year tourist arrivals declined 46% in July, 57% in June and 70.8% in May this year.
As at 31 August 2019, 1,267,737 of tourists had visited Sri Lanka for this year. It is a decline of 19.9% over last year when 1,582,835 of tourists has visited the country during the same period.
India was the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 26% of the total traffic received in August 2019. UK accounted for 10% of the total traffic; while China, Germany and France accounted for 7% and 5% (both) respectively.
