Venture Engine 2014 programme organized to provide the financial support for new Sri Lankan entrepreneurs on their new ventures, has decided to fund several businesses with new ideas.
Fourteen business systems were selected for the final round of this programme organized by Sri Lanka’s Blue Ocean Ventures and Indian Angel Networks from India and were forwarded to a panel of judges from Lankan Angel Network and Indian Angel Network as well as the event sponsors.
Some Rs. 200 million has been invested by this project in 12 companies during the past two years and it aims to increase these investments to Rs. 400 million by 2015, said Blue Ocean Ventures Ltd Managing Director Prajeeth Balasubramaniam.
While commenting on this programme, Indian Angel Network chairman Venugopal Sathyanarayana said that during the past two years Indian Angel Network has provided financial assistance to begin selected companies in Sri Lanka.
The companies selected by Venture Engine 2014 are:
Glitteray: an online jewellery store which is committed in crafting and selling ethical jewellery.
Katha: a platform for creating and storing voice content.
Swimwear by Zii: catering to the conservative woman.
Butterfly Kisses: a children’s clothing and accessory brand.
Endemic: a business built around Sri Lankan fauna.
Jeevana: Sri Lanka’s only matchmaking service.
Healthy Living: a lifestyle brand with a focus on solving obesity issues.
Mihiri: Wearable Art: a collection of unique jewellery.
Zacki Skin Paste: delivering Ayurvedic skin care products.
Zigzag.lk: an online portal for local designers.
AirDrops: a socially-active premium drinking water extraction company.
Mogo: a news narrative mobile application.
