Over 700 million people on our planet do not have basic water service and over 1 billion people do not have access to clean water. Furthermore, our world is currently facing water scarcity and water pollution in a massive way like never before.
With poor water management our world could face a loss of over $40 trillion in economic value in the long-term. Approximately 90% of the water that we use on the planet is for agriculture and industries. The recent heat waves which started last year in many parts of the world had resulted in low agricultural production & food prices had increased. And most importantly, one of the world’s most important shipping routes, the Panama Canal faced shipping disruption due to low water levels, whereas some shipping companies paid millions of dollars to avoid the queues. Last year the Uruguay government declared a water emergency as the country had experienced the most severe drought in the last 70 years.
Recently Watson Michael, CEO of the Ceylon Institute Of English & Leadership (Pvt) Ltd (CIOEL) and Alejandro Sturniolo who is the VP- Marketing & Sustainability at H2O Innovation, and Member of Water Positive (Think tank) had a chat via a podcast. During the podcast they discussed the importance of strategic water management, water desalination & the vitality of educating people. The podcasts done by CIOEL are available on Spotify, YouTube & some other platforms.
Alejandro has a background spanning over 25 years in water purification and a distinguished career in both technological development and the business realm. He believes that to make a genuine impact in the fight against climate change, the first step is ensuring that proposed solutions are not only sustainable but also economically viable. Furthermore, he previously served as Vice President of International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) and held leadership positions at the Latin American Desalination and Reuse Association (ALADYR) and the Argentine Desalination and Water Reuse Association (ADRA). His expertise is demonstrated through over 30 international publications.
