Welipenna Vithanage Sugathapala who is employed as a security person at the New Monis Bakery at Maggona and who has been recently honoured as the happiest man in the world joined us in conversation to mark World Happiness Day.
Sugathapala who was recently honoured at the ‘Happiest Man in the World’ by receiving the highest number of likes in a competition conducted by YouTube says that his happiness has increased with this recognition.
Since he is not concerned over any political issues he has no worries over Sri Lanka’s political situation and hence remains happy always and that he does not discriminate against any races or religions, said Sugathapala while adding that smile very unique to him.
He added that he always tries live while making others happy and as a Buddhist he is well aware of the impermanence of all material things.
According to Sugathapala’s admission, he has received this highest world honour since he does not bear hatred towards anyone and feels sincerely happy when he sees others succeeding.
The 60 year old, slim Welipenna Vithanage Sugathapala had initially worked in an institution in Mount Lavinia. Since this institution had closed down he had lost his job.
Subsequently he had joined New Monis Bakery at Maggona as a security guard and now counts 11 years in service.
Sugathapala has been adjudged the happiest man in the world due to his capability to introduce a unique and satisfying service style into a most difficult occupation and through this in setting an example to the world.
In the United Nations sponsored report on the happiness of the world population during 2013, Sri Lanka ranked 137 among 156 countries.
Meanwhile, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd or GSK Sri Lanka announced today (20 March) in Colombo that it is to launch a programme ‘Panadol Sahanabhimani’ with the aim of developing positive attitudes among Sri Lankans and transforming the island into a happy nation.
