The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has warned against the unauthorized use of the term ‘finance’ in business names, citing legal provisions under the Finance Business Act, No. 42 of 2011.
According to Section 10(2) of the Act, only licensed finance companies and certain specified institutions can use terms such as ‘finance,’ ‘financing,’ or ‘financial’ in their names or business descriptions. Any violation of this requirement, without prior written approval from the CBSL, constitutes an offence under Section 56(4) of the Act.
The public has been strongly advised to comply with these regulations to avoid legal consequences.
