June, 4, 2025

Today, June 4, 2025, Sri Lanka’s stock market soared to a fresh record as the benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) closed at an all-time high of 17,353.05 points, marking a 138.66-point gain or 0.81% from the previous session. This historic milestone comes just a day after the index surpassed the 17,200 mark for the first time.

The S&P SL20 index, which tracks the performance of 20 leading stocks, also climbed 28.38 points or 0.55%, closing at 5,159.66 points, reflecting sustained investor confidence across blue-chip counters.

Market turnover reached a robust Rs. 7.37 billion, with 279 million shares changing hands during the session, indicating strong trading activity. While the number of declining stocks (112) slightly outpaced gainers (103), the broader index was buoyed by sharp gains in several heavyweight counters.

Driving Wednesday’s rally were notable performances from key stocks such as Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC), Central Finance Company (CFIN), Hemas Holdings (HHL), Lion Brewery (LION), and Cargills (CARG), which together provided strong upward momentum for the ASPI.
