Tax Policy Analysis Unit Established Under Department of Fiscal Policy

February, 3, 2026

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has announced the formal establishment of the Tax Policy Analysis Unit (TPAU) under the Department of Fiscal Policy.

The TPAU’s core functions include revenue analysis; economic and distributional analysis of tax policies; evaluation of tax expenditures; engagement with key stakeholders; and analysis and support relating to international taxation as well as regional and international tax cooperation. The Unit will support the design, appraisal and monitoring of tax policy reforms through evidence-based analysis and internationally accepted methodologies.

Marking this milestone, the first capacity-building training programme for the TPAU was conducted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 19 to 30 January 2026.

At the conclusion of the programme, the IMF Mission Team met with the Secretary to the Treasury and the Director General of the Department of Fiscal Policy, where discussions focused on the operationalisation of the Unit and its role in supporting evidence-based tax policy reforms.
