​British Psychological Society confers the highest honour to a Sri Lankan psychologist

Dr. Anton James, founder & director of The Tree House International, was conferred a fellowship from the British Psychological Society, the highest honour bestowed on a psychologist. The president of the British Psychological Society awarded the fellowship title to Dr Anton James for his exceptional contributions to the field of behavioural psychology and the treatment of autism.

The British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick met with Dr Anton James, to congratulate him on his Fellowship and Dr James received a congratulatory message from the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in the UK for the important work he is doing in Sri Lanka.

Dr Anton James is an American-certified behaviour analyst and a chartered behavioural psychologist. He is a subject matter expert in the field of behaviour therapy, with over 20 years of experience in assessing, designing, implementing, and performance monitoring experience in behavioural interventions for children with special needs and supervising professionals working in this field. His comprehensive expertise and exceptional ability to manage problem behaviours are pivotal factors, enabling him to facilitate transformation and change, underscoring his holistic approach to special needs education.

With over two decades of hands-on experience, Dr Anton has mastered a diverse range of skills from diagnosis to assessment and treatment of conditions ranging from ASD, ADHD, Sensory Processing Difficulties, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, intellectual difficulties, picky eating and learning difficulties, and many more.

Walking through his academic journey, Dr Anton embarked on his educational career at the University of Toronto, where he completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology. Propelled by his unwavering passion for special needs education, he extended his studies to Penn State University in the USA. At Penn State, he pursued a course in postgraduate training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and became the world's first BCBA of Sri Lankan origin. His insatiable thirst for knowledge saw him complete his first Master’s degree in Inclusive Education in the UK and a second Master's degree focused on research in education, at the University of Manchester. His academic journey culminated with a Doctorate in Psychology from the same institution, thus vesting him with the honour of being a Chartered Psychologist, Fellow, and a full member of the Division of Academics, Researchers, and Teachers in Psychology at the British Psychological Society.

Drawing out the best from different globally renowned academic approaches Dr Anton holds the qualifications of Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (USA), Chartered Psychologist (UK), Chartered Behavioural Psychologist (Ireland), International Behaviour Analyst (International Behaviour Analyst Organisation), Certified Behaviour Analyst ( UK) and ​Licensed Psychologist (Maldives).

He is the president of the Behaviour Therapist Board of Sri Lanka, and serves as a professional advisory board member and subject matter expert for the International Behaviour Analyst Organisation. These accomplishments are testimony to Dr Anton's leadership and commitment to excellence.
