25% of govt’s advertising budget for State media institutions

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal for compulsorily advertising the publicity programmes, to the value of 25% of the advertising and publicity budget of the Government and semi- Government institutions through state media institutions.

The decision was taken with the aim of reducing the burden placed by State media institutions on the national budget.

Hence, Publicity programmes will be handled through State media institutions such as; the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Independent Television Network, and the Associated Newspapers Company Limited.

The relevant proposal was tabled in the cabinet meeting by the Minister of Mass Media, Keheliya Rambukwella.
