69,000 New Tax Files opened in 2 Months, Tax Revenue Up 8% in First 5.5 Months

69,000 new tax files have been opened in Sri Lanka’s government revenue office – Inland Revenue Department during last two months compared to the 400,000 total tax files that were opened to date, Sri Lanka’s Finance and Media Minister Managala Samaraweera told reporters on Tuesday (June 19th).

Further speaking to reporters Inland Revenue Department (IRD) Commissioner General Ivan Dissanayake had said that total taxes collected by IRD from 1st January to 13th June amounted to 276.7 billion rupees compared to the 256 billion rupees collected in the corresponding period last year. This shows that tax revenue collected during the first five and half months had increased by over 8% compared to a year earlier.
