The government’s attention has been drawn towards launching an internal aviation service while utilising the local airports and airstrips for tourists to easily travel to various locations.
A high-ranking government official in the tourism trade said several aircraft would have to be purchased in the near future for this purpose.
He also added that attention has also been focused on modernizing the Katunayake International Airport to handle around 15 million tourists annually as a move to improve the tourism industry.
Tourist arrivals into Sri Lanka have seen a large growth after the end of the near 30 years old separatist conflict.
