The government is to steel flyovers to ease the traffic congestion in the Colombo city and suburbs. Initially, three such flyovers are to be constructed; one at Welikada Junction in Rajagiriya which would be a four-lane flyover and the other two being two-lane flyovers over the railway crossings at Ganemulla and Polgahawela.

The government is to enter into agreements shortly with the government of Spain and BBVA Bank of Spain for the construction of these much needed flyovers, similar to those at Nugegoda, Dehiwala, Peliyagoda etc.
