Taiwan says it wants to do more business with Sri Lanka, according to the President and CEO of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council Mr. Peter. W. J. Huang, who visited the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on Monday evening.

“Taiwan plays a vital role in development of SMEs, not only trade but also services and tourism. Therefore, we wish to invite companies in Sri Lanka to further expand their business activities in Taiwan” said Mr. Peter Huang during the meeting with the Chamber.

Speaking here Mr. Mangala P. B. Yapa, CEO of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said “Time is opportune now. Here is our invitation for you to further strengthen and develop business with Sri Lanka. Our Chamber is glad to extend our fullest co-operation to Taiwan External Trade Development Council as in the past”

He also emphasized on the importance of organizing business promotion missions between the two nations and also the importance of focusing on garnering the opportunities available with the existing Free Trade Agreements with India and Pakistan.

The trade between Sri Lanka and Taiwan has been improving in the recent past. Sri Lanka’s exports to Taiwan mainly are Seafood, Tea and Garments. Imports from Taiwan to Sri Lanka consists of Textile Fabric, Garment accessories and electronic products.

Miss Lilakshini de Mel, Senior Assistant Secretary General of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Nicolas Lee, Manager and Ms. Ivory Chang of Taipei World Trade Center attended the meeting.
