The Sri Lanka Veterinary Association (SLVA) marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its prestigious 75th Annual General Meeting and Annual Convention at the Shangri-La Colombo on December 01, 2023.
The event was graced by distinguished guests including Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera as the Chief Guest and High Commissioner for Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives His Excellency Eric Walsh as the Guest of Honour.
SLVA President Prof. Dilan Satharasinghe welcomed the audience, setting the tone for an eventful evening where renowned veterinarians were recognized and awarded certificates and medals for their outstanding contribution and achievements.
The gathering was further enriched by the presence of Prof. Subashinie Kariyawasam, Chair Professor, Department of Comparative Diagnostic, and Population Medicine, University of Florida, USA, who delivered an insightful keynote address.
Another key highlight at the event was the induction of Dr. Mohamed Ijas as the 76th elected President of the Sri Lanka Veterinary Association, with the appointment of the 76th Executive Committee. The newly elected leadership is poised to guide the association towards new heights of excellence and service to the veterinary profession.
With a participation of more than 600 veterinarians and special invitees, the event showcased the unity and dedication of the veterinary community in Sri Lanka.
Furthermore, following acknowledgement and appreciation of the event’s sponsors, the vote of thanks was delivered by SLVA secretary Dr. Kaundika Wanigasundara and the event concluded with the closing ceremonial procession and fellowship dinner.
Established in 1940, the Sri Lanka Veterinary Association (SLVA) stands as the professional body dedicated to serving and representing the interests of the veterinary profession in Sri Lanka. With over 1,400 members, SLVA is deeply committed to the enhancement of the quality of the profession and the well-being of animals.
The SLVA continues to play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among veterinarians serving in various sectors.
