Blow after blow for Sri Lanka’s tea, fishery industries

Latest date released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka indicate that Sri Lanka’s tea exports have dropped drastically for the 12th consecutive time during last July in the face of the crisis situations in the Middle East and Russia.

Accordingly, when compared to July 2014, Sri Lanka’s tea exports have dropped by 14 per cent in July 2015 with the revenue earned being USD 126.5.

During July 2014 the earnings from tea exports had been USD 147.2 million.

Meanwhile, with the European Union ban of Sri Lanka’s fishery exports continuing, during July this year as compared to July 2014, fishery exports have dropped by 32.5 per cent.

Sri Lanka earned USD 22.4 million in 2014 while this has dropped to USD 15.1 million in July 2015.

The fishery exports to the European Union dropping by 71 percent last July is a notable feature here.
