The overall rate of inflation as measured by the NCPI on a Year-over-Year basis was 0.3% in June 2025 and inflation calculated for the May 2025 was 0.6%.
On a monthly basis, the Year-on-Year inflation of the food group decreased to 4.2% in June 2025 from 5.9% in May 2025 and the Year-on-Year inflation of the non-food group increased to -2.8% in June 2025 from -3.4% in May 2025.
Contribution to Month-on-Month Changes:
Contributions to the NCPI on a Month-on-Month basis (June 2025 as compared to May 2025) are given in Table 02. The month-on- month change was mainly contributed to by an increase in food items and non-food items of 0.35% and 0.20%, respectively.
Contribution of Food items: 0.35%
As shown in Table 02, the increases in index values were reported for Fresh fish (0.29%), Green chilies (0.11%), Dried fish (0.10%), Eggs (0.07%), Chicken (0.05%), Limes (0.03%), Red onions (0.02%), Milk powder (0.02%), Coconut oil (0.02%), Soft drinks (0.01%) and Ginger (0.01%). However, decreases in index values were reported for Vegetables (0.21%), Fresh fruits (0.04%), Coconuts (0.02%), Big onions (0.01%), Tea dust/leaves (0.01%), Infant milk powder (0.01%), Tamarind (0.01%), Rice (0.01% ), Dried Chilies (0.01%), Yoghurt (0.01%) and Mysore dhal (0.01%).
Contribution of Non-food items: 0.20%
The increase in index values of non-food groups in June 2025 compared to the previous month was mainly due to the price increases in the groups of items 'Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other fuels' (Electricity bill) (0.17%), 'Restaurants and Hotels' (0.03%), 'Communication' (0.01%) and Recreation and Culture' (0.01%). However, price decrease was reported in the group of 'Transport' (Airline fare) (0.01%). Further, a very slight price increases were reported in groups of 'Clothing and Footwear', 'Health' and 'Miscellaneous Goods and Services' and a very slight price decreases were reported in groups of 'Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco, and Narcotics' and 'Furnishing, Household equipment and Routine household maintenance'. Meanwhile, the price index of 'Education' group remained unchanged during the month.
