September, 16, 2026

Sri Lanka’s Public Debt Management Office (PDMO), operating under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, successfully raised its targeted Rs. 70,000 million at the Treasury bill auction held today (16) though weighted average yields posted gains across all three maturity tenors.

Yields nudged higher across the board compared to the previous auction:

  • 91-Day Bills: The Weighted Average Yield Rate (WAYR) rose 15 basis points to 9.18%, up from 9.03% at the previous auction. The PDMO accepted the full Rs. 25,000 million offered.
  • 182-Day Bills: The WAYR increased 12 basis points to 9.36%, compared to 9.24% previously. The entire offered amount of Rs. 25,000 million was fully accepted.
  • 364-Day Bills: The 1-year yield advanced 11 basis points to 9.88%, up from 9.77% in the previous sale. The full offered amount of Rs. 20,000 million was accepted.

Total market demand significantly exceeded the government's borrowing requirement, with total bids received reaching Rs. 171,601 million—more than 2.4 times the aggregate Rs. 70,000 million offered:

  • Bids for the 91-day tenor reached Rs. 63,411 million.
  • Bids for the 182-day tenor totaled Rs. 53,833 million.
  • Bids for the 364-day tenor came in at Rs. 54,357 million.

The official settlement date for the auction is set for September 18, 2026.
