Prime Minister D.S. Senanayaka, a master horseman sphere headed the combined efforts of many patriots including Anagarika Dharmapala & Edward Henry Pedris etc. to gain dominion status from the British on 4th February 1948. Celebrating the 78th independence anniversary President AKD stressed below points to his people (Ref. Media).
Economic Development Challenges.
Japan is a nation which took post conflict economic development seriously after WWII. Sri Lankan stand at the 1951 San Francisco Peace Summit to pardon Japan may have contributed to Japanese efforts to become the world’s 2nd largest economy by late 1980s (sometimes referred to as the ‘East Asian Model’). One might call it a glorious achievement. In Japanese language ‘Haru Urara’ means ‘Glorious Spring’ & it’s associated with a famous racehorse which never won any of its 113 races. However, it became a cultural icon of perseverance & resilience. Some affectionately refers to ‘Haru Urara’ as the "shining star of the losing team" especially when discussing the Japanese economy being over taken by others including China.
The Emperor’s Horses
Different civilizations symbolize horse in different ways. 2026 is the year of the horse in China. The Chinese associate direction, speed & responsibility with the horse & believes in the legendary steeds (Ba Jun Tu) of King Mu of the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046BC – 771BC) to take the civilization forward. The steeds symbolize unmatched speed, power & the emperor's ability to govern (Ref. Chinese literature). The people should work with him.
