August, 12, 2026

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Maldives Business Chamber have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will create new opportunities for businesses in Sri Lanka and the Maldives to expand trade, investment, and commercial partnerships.

The signing took place in the presence of Hon. Wasantha Samarasinghe, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, and H.E. Masood Imad, High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Sri Lanka. The MoU was signed by Mr. Krishan Balendra, Chairperson of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Ahmed Amjad, President of the Maldives Business Chamber.

The partnership establishes a framework for sustained collaboration between the two Chambers, with a focus on facilitating business-to-business connections, promoting trade and investment opportunities, supporting business missions and networking initiatives, sharing market intelligence, and encouraging cooperation across sectors of mutual interest.

Sri Lanka and the Maldives share longstanding economic and people-to-people ties, with growing potential for collaboration across sectors including tourism, logistics, construction, healthcare, food and agriculture, financial services, and professional services. The MoU provides a practical platform for businesses to capitalise on these opportunities through closer institutional cooperation.

The signing also reinforces the role of the Sri Lanka-Maldives Business Council of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in advancing bilateral commercial relations by connecting businesses, facilitating dialogue, and promoting partnerships that support sustainable economic growth in both countries.
