The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has met with the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) 7th Review Mission to Sri Lanka to discuss current economic conditions and brief the delegation on key issues facing businesses on the ground.
During the discussion, the Chamber presented its perspective on Sri Lanka's overall economic growth prospects and outlined key support required to help businesses expand. Specific attention was directed toward the ongoing obstacles confronting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), alongside the critical need for stronger startup ecosystems, access to finance, and accelerated digitalisation.
The consultation also featured several key operational and structural priorities, including the fast-tracking of renewable energy to the grid, overcoming logistics constraints, boosting export performance, and attracting new investment. Additionally, the Chamber stressed that Sri Lanka must remain competitive within the region while ensuring that economic policies continue to respond dynamically to changing conditions.
In response, the IMF mission team acknowledged the value of the Chamber’s input during its stakeholder consultations, commending its broad view of developments across the business community. Looking ahead, the Ceylon Chamber confirmed that it will continue to bring the private sector perspective into broader discussions regarding Sri Lanka’s economic policy and reform agenda.
