Sri Lanka’s tea production increases

Due to favourable weather conditions Sri Lanka’s tea production has seen an increase of 17.5 per cent in March this year when compared to March 2014, says the Sri Lanka Tea Board.

Sri Lanka’s tea production during the first quarter of 2015 has risen by 07 per cent when compared to the same period in 2014.

Last year (2014) the island’s tea production fell when compared to 2013 where Sri Lanka had produced a record 240.2 kilos of tea.

Though the tea production was lower last year, the earnings showed a significant increase in 2013.

The incumbent government has proposed a guaranteed price of Rs. 80 per kilogram of plucked tea leaves.
