A new city at Pore interchange in Athurugiriya too?

May, 7, 2014

AdaderanaBiz earlier reported that though the Kottawa to Kothalawela, Kaduwela stretch of the outer-circular expressway has already been opened, the Kothalawela interchange is only temporary till a new interchange comes up at Pore in Athurugiriya.

Accordingly, the Road Development Authority (RDA) has already begun work on reclaiming a part of the marsh/paddy land at Pore in Athurugiriya for the construction of this new interchange.

Work is being carried out 24 hours of the day.

Residents in the area told AdaderanaBiz that the RDA has acquired a major portion of this marsh/paddy land and hence there would be more development here than just an interchange. They also added that there is a rumor in circulation that the Athurugiriya bus stand too is to be relocated to this area.

When inquired regarding this, RDA chief R.W.R. Pemasiri said the first priority would be the interchange and the others would be considered after its completion.

In future the temporary interchange at Kothalawela is to be removed and the Kaduwela interchange is planned to be shifted to the huge bridge being built across the Kelaniya River.

Once the outer-circular expressway is completed it would be linked to the Katunayake expressway.
