The chairman of Cargills Ceylon PLC Louis Page says that the company will continue to take action against unrelated retail stores infringing ‘food city’ trademark.

“Cargills Food City is the only retail chain with geographic representation across the country through its 380 supermarkets. Our commitment to improving the customer experience by providing quality items at affordable prices in a clean environment has established the brand as a household name in the minds of the consumer. This brand strength has resulted in several unrelated retail stores infringing upon our valued “Food City” trademark. We continue to take action to protect our brand from such unlawful infringement,” group chairman Louis Page told shareholders in the company’s annual report for last year.

Speaking further Page noted that the company is investing Rs.3 billion on a new centralized logistics center to meet its future island wide supply chain requirements.

“To support our continued growth, the business also commenced construction of a new centralized logistics center, which is expected to be completed in the 1st half of 2020/21.” Page added.

The logistics center will eventually centralize all logistics operations of the business with the Cargills ‘Food City’ supermarket chain expanding to 400 outlets this year.
