Bairaha Farms PLC donates dry rations to support Ellalamulla village in times of economic crisis

Bairaha Farms PLC, the pioneer chicken processor in Sri Lanka for nearly five decades, completed yet another worthy CSR project by distributing dry food rations to the community of Ellalamulla village, in the Gampaha District.

Ellalamulla village is home to the Bairaha processing factory and the initiative was a meaningful CSR project aimed at helping the village community to provided with part of their basic food requirements. The distribution of 400 food ration parcels took place at the Ellalamulla temple with the participation of the Chief Priest, villagers of Ellalamulla, as well as senior management and staff of Bairaha Farms PLC. Another 380 food ration parcels were distributed through the local Mosque of the area. At a time of economic crisis and food insecurity, the Ellalamulla community was benefited greatly by receiving essential food ration items.

The senior management of Bairaha Farms PLC stated; “contributing to society and our fellow Sri Lankan citizens is a core principle of our corporate culture and this is reflected in our CSR projects. Ellalamulla village is home to a low-income and vulnerable community that faces many challenges in meeting their basic food needs during this economic crisis. The community is close to our heart as our processing factory is located there, along with many of our valued employees. We firmly believe in giving back to such communities and as responsible corporate entity, we are happy to rise to the occasion and alleviate their hardship.”

The company is renowned for its Help to Learn program which supports over 600 of their employees’ school going children located in many parts of the Country. The company has also gained an international recognition for uplifting vulnerable communities such as differently abled persons, specially the visually impaired. At the FMCG Asia Awards, Bairaha Farms PLC was honoured as the winner of the Environmental Social Governance Initiative of the Year in Sri Lanka 2021 for publishing a recipe book in braille. Bairaha Farms PLC also cemented their commitment to inclusivity by donating braille books to all 18 schools for the blind across the country.
