April, 24, 2014

The earlier plans for the construction of a hotel opposite the Galle Face by the Hong Kong based Shangri-La Group have reportedly been changed and according to the new plans even the high tension electricity lines running across the area have to be relocated.

While speaking to AdaderanaBiz on this issue, Investment Promotions Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene said, “The initial plans for the hotel have now been changed. There is an addition of about 125 rooms according to the new plans. Hence, even the high tension electricity lines running across the new area have to be relocated.

The minister further added that though the Shangri-La group was to initially invest some USD 350 million, the group is expected to invest some USD 450 million under the new plans.

While the initial construction work of this hotel has already begun it is expected to be completed by 2017.
