There is a huge increase in Chinese tourists into Sri Lanka and very soon the country with the most number of tourists to Sri Lanka would be China, said chairman of the Sri Lanka Inbound Tour Operators’ Association Mahendra Kariyawasam.

While speaking to adaderanabiz.lk, Kariyawasam said the government has taken steps to obtain the services of 20 Chinese interpreters with the tour guides in Sri Lanka due to the increase of Chinese tourist arrivals.

“These Chinese interpreters will begin work in a few days. They will interpret what the Sri Lankan tour guides say to these Chinese nationals,” added Mahendra Kariyawasam.

Sri Lanka held several promotion campaigns to attract Chinese tourists.

According to the latest data released by the government, the number of Chinese arriving in Sri Lanka has increased by 172.2 percent in July this year which totals to 15,178 tourists.

While there is an increase in the number of wealthy persons in China which is considered becoming the world’s greatest economy, analysts point out that they would look more to foreign travel in the future.
