Chinese top the list as tourists to Sri Lanka

China has become the country with the fastest arrivals of tourists to Sri Lanka. According to the latest government statistics tourists arrivals from China in July this year Chinese tourists to Sri Lanka has grown by 172.2 percent to 15,178 tourists.

While within the first four months of this year the number of Chinese tourists had increased to 67,408 which is 144.2 percent.

Though there had been tourist arrivals from the UK within the last seven months of this year, its increase has been marginal as 6.4 percent.

Last July, 19,277 Indian tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka making an increase of 30.4 percent.

Sri Lanka had organized a number of promotions to attract more Chinese tourists to the island with the aim of attracting more tourists in future.

There are a lot of wealthy people being created in China which is transforming into the world’s largest economy and analysts say that they would mostly tour foreign lands.

Overall, there have been 133,971 tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka last July and this is an increase of 25.2 percent.

Within the seven months of this year, up to July, 861,324 tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka which is an increase of 24.7 percent.
