CIMA Sports Day 2017 for 21st year

CIMA Sports Day 2017, a two-day sports extravaganza organized by the CIMA Students’ Society (CIMASS), was held for its 21st year on 2 and 9 July.

Sports Day is one of the most festive events in the CIMASS calendar bringing together more than 1000 individuals comprising of CIMA students, exam completed students as well as others, ACMAs and employees representing corporate organizations. Establishing a platform in which one’s true sporting potential can be harnessed and brought to the fore, CIMA Sports Day is invariably an occasion where spirits as well as tensions run high amongst premier CIMA institutes, both private and state universities, and rivalling corporate bodies as well.

Organized on the theme “The glamour - the glory - the game”, the first leg of Sports Day comprised solely of basketball.  The final match was battled out between Achievers Reds and team Hathara Denama Soorayo from Wisdom, in which Achievers Reds were the runners up and team Hathara Denama Soorayo emerged triumphant; consequently securing the basketball trophy for the institute category. The corporate category finals were between IIT and University of Kaleniya which resulted in IIT snatching the victory in the final few minutes of the game. The female basketball competition finals were against an action packed game between Achievers and Wisdom resulting in Achievers bagging the victory and ultimately claiming the first basketball female trophy in sports day history.

This year’s event is supported by Nolimit (Pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka's biggest and largest online fashion and lifestyle store as the Strategic Partner for the third consecutive year. Imperial Institute of higher education stepped in as the Education Partner, Wijeya Newspapers Ltd has stepped in as the ‘Print Media Partner’. The Photography and Videography Partner of Sports Day 2017 is Vevra, The sporting partner of the event is Ralhum Sports, while Choco luv and Paan Paan stepped in as Urban Challenge partners for CIMA Sports Day 2017.
