Demonstrating its continued commitment to community development, Citi partnered with ChildFund Sri Lanka to support Mawela Kanishta Vidyalaya in Wadduwa recently as part of Citi Global Community Day 2026, the company’s flagship annual volunteer initiative.
More than just a day of service, the initiative brought together Citi volunteers to help create a more conductive learning environment for students through a range of school improvement projects. Volunteers refreshed classrooms with new coats of paint, restored and created vibrant wall murals, repaired sanitary facilities with the main highlight of donating a system for students to access clear water along with other greening initiatives.
The day also included a friendly cricket match between Citi volunteers and the students, fostering meaningful connections and creating memorable experiences beyond the physical improvements made to the school.
Speaking on the initiative, Ravin Basnayake, Citi Country Officer & Banking Head Sri Lanka, said: “At Citi, we believe that meaningful progress begins with strong communities. Global Community Day reflects our commitment to creating a positive and lasting impact through the dedication of our volunteers. We are grateful to partner with ChildFund Sri Lanka and the school community to help create a better and safe earning environment for these students”.
The project reflects Citi’s long-standing commitment to giving back to the communities in which it operates. Through Global Community Day, employees around the world dedicate their time and skills to initiatives that strengthen local communities and create lasting social impact.
