Colombo city’s per capita will hit $12,650 in 3 years

Head of Sri Lanka’s Vallibel One Group, Mr. Dhammika Perera, says that a country’s per capita income should surpass US$ 12,650 for it to be considered as a developed country and that he believes Colombo city’s per capita income would reach this level in 3 years.

Speaking during an event marking the opening of trading at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) this morning (04), the Chairman/Managing Director of Vallibel One PLC further stated that when you take into consideration countries such as Dubai and Singapore, they are essentially cities.

Mr. Perera said that he believes the city of Colombo will be able to reach the developed level within another 3 years which means that the city where 5% of the country’s population will be in the developed level.

He said that all that remains then is how to achieve this level in the other districts where 95% of the population live in and that he thinks this goal will not be too difficult if each district is given separate goals to achieve.
