Annual General Meetings (AGMs) provide one of the few opportunities shareholders have to question the board, engage directly with management, and hear the views of other shareholders.

However, the outbreak of the Coronavirus is causing companies to rethink their arrangements for 2020 AGMs in light of potential bans on large gatherings, travel restrictions and the risk that venues selected for the meetings may cease to be available due to unexpected closure.

Where AGM notices have already been sent out, or are in the process of being dispatched, companies are urging shareholders to check their websites for AGM updates.

People’s Insurance PLC issuing a notice yesterday (08) stated that the company has decided to postpone the Annual General Meetings (AGM) which was scheduled to be held on 14 October 2020 at 3.30 p.m at Block 02, Lotus Hall, Bandaranayake Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07.

In a Stock Exchange filing, the company stated that the AGM will be notified by way of a further announcement.

Seylan Bank PLC has decided to postpone its Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) which was scheduled to be held on 13 October 2020.

Taking into consideration the current regulations/restrictions prevailing in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Directors of LAUGFS Gas PLC has decided to hold the 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM) as a Virtual Meeting on 29th October 2020 at 1.00pm, in line with the guidelines issued by the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) for hosting of virtual AGMs and on the assumption that no curfew will be in force on that date and that there would be no restrictions imposed by the authorities on conduct of meetings.
