Development programme launched to eradicate poverty and to provide everyone similar benefits – President

President Maithripala Sirisena says that the government has launched a development programme which provides a systematic development based on a long term plan and which eradicates the poverty of the people.

It is not a development which satisfies a certain party in the country but a development programme which is implemented that has identified the conscience of the people and let the people stand with pride as a developed nation in front of the whole world said the President.

President Sirisena stated this engaging in reorganization of the SLFP electoral committees in Polonnaruwa held at Polonnaruwa yesterday (24).

The Gramashakthi People’s movement which was initiated to eradicate the poverty of the people is being conducted practically Island wide, said the President stating that the “Gamperaliya” programme which will make a revolutionary change will also be conducted Island wide soon.

Thus the government has also planned to implement a new loan system to uplift the entrepreneurs of the country and through that solutions will be provided for unemployment as well as local products will be boosted, said the President.

President Sirisena also mentioned that the economical development and providing solutions for the problems of the people will also be considered through the National Economic Council.

He further stated that it is the policy of the current government to give prominence for local products and the concept of indigenous strength.

The President said that the government has decided to increase taxes for the imported fruits considering the difficulties faced by the local fruit dealers.

President Sirisena also mentioned that a programme will be implemented in the future to prohibit cutting all the recommended and recognized and. Specified fruit trees by the Agriculture department and specialists in order to give more value to the local fruits.
