As Buddhists across Sri Lanka commemorated the sacred Poson season, DFCC Bank observed one of the country's most revered religious occasions through its annual Buddhanuwandana Poson Bhakthi Gee, bringing together employees, customers, devotees, and members of the wider community in Colombo and Kandy in an atmosphere of devotion, reflection, and spiritual harmony.
Held in remembrance of the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka by Arahat Mahinda Thera, Poson is a time for quiet reflection on the values of compassion, wisdom, generosity, and peaceful coexistence. Through these annual observances, DFCC Bank continues a tradition that honours not only the religious significance of the season but also the cultural heritage that has shaped generations of Sri Lankans.
The Colombo programme was held at the Bank's Head Office, where members of Corporate Management and employees gathered in prayerful observance through the offering of Bhakthi Gee. The devotional programme created a serene setting in which participants paused from the demands of daily life to reflect on the timeless teachings of the Buddha and the values that continue to guide both individuals and communities.
The observance continued in Kandy, where DFCC Bank hosted a special Buddhanuwandana Poson Bhakthi Gee programme in front of the sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa. Against one of the country's most revered places of worship, devotees, visitors, and members of the public joined the Bank in a shared expression of faith and reverence, creating an evening that reflected the unity and spiritual significance of the Poson season.
In keeping with the long-standing traditions associated with Poson, the Bank also organised a Dansala in Kandy, offering refreshments to devotees and visitors. The simple act of giving reflected the spirit of dāna that lies at the heart of the observance, reminding all present that generosity, compassion, and service remain enduring expressions of Buddhist practice.
Recognising that many well-wishers were unable to attend in person, both devotional programmes were livestreamed through DFCC Bank's official social media channels, allowing employees, customers, and devotees across the country to participate in the commemorations. The Kandy programme was also streamed through the official social media platforms of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, extending the reach of the observance to an even wider audience.
Commenting on the occasion, Thimal Perera, Director/Chief Executive Officer of DFCC Bank PLC, said,"Poson invites us to pause and reflect on the values that continue to shape our lives as individuals and as a society. Compassion, wisdom, generosity, and respect for one another remain as relevant today as they were centuries ago. Through Buddhanuwandana Poson Bhakthi Gee, we are honoured to bring together our employees, customers, and communities in observance of this sacred occasion, while paying tribute to the rich spiritual and cultural heritage that continues to inspire our nation."
For DFCC Bank, commemorating Poson is about more than preserving tradition. It is about creating moments that bring people together in reflection, gratitude, and shared purpose. As the gentle strains of Bhakthi Gee echoed through Colombo and the sacred city of Kandy, they served as a reminder that the values celebrated during Poson continue to resonate far beyond the season itself, strengthening the bonds that unite communities and inspiring hope for generations to come.
