Dialog TV subscribers up – Telecommunication companies’ profits down

Subscribers to Dialog TV, the Dialog group’s paid digital television broadcasting arm, has grown to 534,000 by end June 2015, says the company.

This is a growth of 37 per cent when compared against the same period of last year.

Dialog TV (DTV) seeing a 25 per cent growth in revenue to Rs. 2.8 billion during the first six months of 2105 is a significant feature.

While DTV has gained a nett profit of Rs. 114 million during the first six months of 2015, it is a drop of 49 per cent when compared against the same period of last year.

Meanwhile, during the first the six months of 2015 the Dialog Axiata Group has recorded a consolidated profit of Rs. 35.1 billion which is a growth of 06 per cent. Accordingly, during the first six months of 2015 the Dialog Group has been able to record a nett profit of Rs. 3.9 billion

The government deciding to offer a 25 per cent bonus on internal pre-paid calls since 07 April 2015 has resulted in telecommunication service providers’ profits falling during the second quarter of 2015.
