A Dubai’s Gold Souk style shopping complex dedicated to the jewellery market is to be opened in July in the specially refurbished former St. John’s fish market premises in the Pettah, says the Urban Development Authority (UDA) chairman.

UDA chairman Nimal Perera told www.AdaderanaBiz.lk that this shopping complex would accommodate 83 gold and jewellery sales centeres.

The UDA has invited the jewellery establishments at Chetty Street in the Pettah to shift their businesses to this new complex.

“Jewellery shop owners have already paid advance payments and reserved 60 shops in this complex. The gold and jewellery business is being carried out at Chetty Street in the Pettah without adequate security. There are not even adequate parking facilities for the customers. Strong security will be provided within this complex as well as enough parking facilities for the customers,” said Nimal Perera.

Since an authentication centre of the Gems and Jewellery Authority would be set up at this complex the customers would be able to easily authenticate the quality their purchases of gems & jewellery easily at the complex itself, said the UDA chairman.

There are over 300 shops at the Gold Souk in Dubai dedicated to the sale of gold and jewellery.
