  • Sets out bold targets on emissions reduction, fuel efficiency
  • Commits to enforcing sustainable practices across the supply chain

Recommitting itself to effective climate action in accordance with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), leading integrated global logistics solutions provider, Expolanka Freight Ltd (EFL) announced its inclusion into the membership in Green Freight Asia (GFA).

EFL’s membership in GFA will include the company in an influential and growing network of Asian road freight companies working in collaboration to improve fuel efficiency, reduce CO2e emissions, and lower logistics costs across the entire supply chain. The group is made up of large, medium, and small logistics companies (carriers) and customers of logistics companies (shippers).

“Environmental sustainability in business is no longer a choice, but rather an imperative. While our industry certainly faces notable challenges, we believe that there also is a clear economic opportunity to be captured. Strategic interventions have the potential to drastically reduce our carbon emissions, and that is why our inclusion into the GFA network is so crucial.

“By accessing this international collaborative, we are able to learn and share experiences with the region’s leading industry players. As the first Sri Lankan company to acquire membership in GFA, we hope that we can also encourage our peers to join together with EFL on our mission to chart a more sustainable path for our industry, and contribute to a greener world,” EFL Global Lead – Sustainability, Sabrina Yusoof stated.

Moving forward, EFL will be working in collaboration with GFA to incorporate sustainable best practices into every facet of its business, including the implementation of more stringent carbon accounting standards, as well as comprehensive measures aimed at reducing fleet emissions through driver training and other strategic investments.

Subsequent to a rigorous vetting process by GFA, EFL will also be assigned further certification, which will stand as a further validation of the company’s firm commitment to assessing and mitigating its environmental impact and championing the emergence of a new paradigm of green logistics in Sri Lanka.

"Having Expolanka Freight in the Green Freight Asia (GFA) network is a testament of its commitment to environmental stewardship. Sustainability is a core value of Expolanka and this is evident during our discussions with them. GFA looks forward to working with them to further extend their goals and support them in the work that they do,” Green Freight Asia’s Development Manager, Pei Shyuan Yeo stated.

EFL’s addition to the GFA network follows up on its recent ISO 14064 certification for Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, which voluntarily commits EFL to provide a credible and accurate measurement of its carbon footprint as well as specific organizational actions that aimed at further improving GHG management, in addition to providing guidance on quality management, reporting, internal auditing and the responsibilities for verification of reporting.

EFL is a member of Expolanka PLC - a leading conglomerate with interests in Logistics, Leisure and Investments. The company has thrived on overcoming the challenges of operating in limited logistic infrastructure markets, taking its operations to 18 countries, 60+ offices and over 2,300 staff around the world.
