* Also launches Best-Selling Big Data Analytics Textbook

EMC today launched the new EMC Academic Associate recognition that would validate skills of EMC Academic Alliance (EAA) students in the high demand areas of Information Storage Management and Cloud Computing. EMC will evaluate the skills and industry readiness of the students and provide this information to potential employers. The recognition will be rolled out to all EAA Partner institutes across the country over the year. EAA has educated over 250,000 students since 2006, providing the industry with a ready-made pipeline of IT knowledgeable candidates.

To achieve EMC Academic Associate recognition, students will have to take a free technical online test. The globally standardized test provides objective validation to the EMC Academic Associate of his/her knowledge. The EMC Academic Associate recognition would also enable the students to join a large and diverse EMC technical community, where they can network, seek and give advice, and learn more through online forums such as the EMC Proven Professional community. Students who get the recognition can use the Academic Associate logo and credential on resumes, email signatures, and in social media.

Krishna Kant, Head, EMC Academic Alliance Program, South Asia & Russia said, “We believe that the talent gap in the emerging Asian markets is increasing every year and it is getting harder for employers to spot the right people. We want to congratulate SLIIT which has played a critical role in training students in Sri Lanka. Through the EMC Academic Associate recognition we would like to provide an opportunity to potential employers to choose among the best IT talents. The recognition will also allow students to validate their skills at a global level and will enchase their employability.”

“Data Scientist is the hottest job of the 21st century, we believe that the launch of the textbook will enable aspirants in Sri Lanka start and shape their career in this critical field,” he added.

The student tests are created by EMC technical subject matter experts who have developed EMC’s ‘open’ curriculum, ensuring strict alignment to the course materials and strong relevance in the industry. The concept of ‘open’ curriculum focuses on concepts and principles of technologies rather than focusing on features and functions of specific products. The Data Science and Big Data Analytics course, certification, and the new book called Data Science and Big Data Analytics, are based upon this unique concept of ‘open’ curriculum.

The book has been created by EMC Education Services and published by Wiley and is available for purchase on Wiley.com and Amazon. The book formally introduces the Analytics Lifecycle and covers the breadth of activities, methods, and tools that Data Scientists use. The content focuses on technology concepts and principles that can be applied to any industry and environment.

The textbook is designed for college graduates and other professionals such as analysts, managers, and database professionals, who are eager to start a career in the Data Analytics field. It is also a recommended textbook for students learning Data Science and Big Data Analytics at their schools under the EMC Academic Alliance program.

SLIIT, the largest IT degree awarding institute in Sri Lanka was the first university in the country to join the EMC Academic Alliance (EAA) in January 2013.
