A prominent Japanese financial services provider Daiwa Securities is reportedly preparing to invest a massive USD one billion in Sri Lankan Treasury Bonds.

While speaking at an exclusive interview with adaderanabiz.lk Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Japan Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda said this investment is expected to be made by next March.

A delegation of senior representatives from Daiwa Securities who were in Sri Lanka last March to examine investing in the island had met Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and Securities & Exchange Commission head Dr. Nalaka Godahewa for discussions.

The Tokyo based Daiwa Securities is the second largest securities brokerage entity in Japan and had been established in 1943.

Admiral Karannagoda added that Japan’s Bansei Securities had also invested around USD 200million in Sri Lanka in the recent past.

Bansei Securities had invested this amount in Sri Lankan Treasury Bills, to buy a hotel and purchase around 15 percent shares in Pan Asia Bank, Admiral Karannagoda further added.
