The Sri Lanka Apparel Brands Association (SLABA) with the participation of some 100 organizations in the apparels sector has planned to set up a wide ranging sales centre in Colombo to sell apparels to local and foreign buyers.

While speaking to AdaderanaBiz.lk, SLABA chairman Indradatta Dharmawardena said that countries like China and Thailand have already set up such wholesale apparels sales centres and a similar sales centre was expected to be set up in Colombo.

“We expect to request an acre of land from the government on a long term lease facilities towards this project. Our focus is concentrated towards areas like Rajagiriya, Kollupitiya and Bambalapitiya.

“We have planned to set up some 100 apparels wholesale centres at this complex. The costs towards the construction would be met by the connected apparels producers and through bank loans,” Dharmawardena added further.

The construction of this sales centre is expected to be completed within two years of its inception, he said.
