FITIS Holds API ASIA for the second time

Federation of Information technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) hosted API ASIA conference for the second time in Colombo on the 16th November 2023 at Shangri-La bringing industry experts, with keynote speakers and delivery experts to an open forum to expand the reach to the interested group of over 500 professionals, business leaders and developers to create opportunities and delivering business value. The event was organized by the Software Chapter of FITIS.

API ASIA, first held in 2019, is an annual event of FITIS but was not held during the past three years due to the situation prevailed in the country.

This year’s API ASIA 2023 had the three tracks “Financial Technology  (Fin Tech)”, “Smart Cities” and “Artificial Intelligence (AI)” which were focused on supporting the Government Initiatives on developing the Digital Economy of Sri Lanka.

Chief Guest of the event State Minister of Technology Hon Kanaka Herath addressing the gathering stated that the Government will partner with industry associations such as the Federation of IT Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) to expand the digital trade and reach the Government’s objectives by 2030. The Ministry of Technology has taken the lead under the guidance of His Excellency the President Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe by launching the DigiEcon 2030 programme.

Addressing the participants Mr Indika Zoysa emphasized that the expectation of the industry is to achieve the target of USD 15 Billion in digital trade. FITIS will work closely with the Government and other industry partners to achieve this. FITIS is currently engaged in several activities in support of the Government’s effort.

Mr Sanjaya Dayananda addressing the gathering highlighted the importance of understanding the technicalities of Application Programming Interface (API) in connecting the digital systems as only interconnected digital applications will provide the users full potential in moving to digital domain. He also stated that it is the intention of FITIS to introduce API ASIA as a regional and subsequently a global conference.

This conference featured with 16 speakers’ insights from Leading Industry personnel and forward-thinking disruptors, including IT and business leaders of innovative companies in the region. They have shared their practical strategies and success stories in spearheading Business Process Innovation, Automation and implementation to sustain business in today’s disrupted world.

During the past few years, the world has transformed into a global village. In this context, businesses need to serve a large number of customers to survive in a competitive environment. To do this, most business owners have transformed their businesses using digital transformation, and a majority of businesses have used APIs and API management solutions to achieve this transformation.

Therefore, this conference helped how APIs will help the business leaders, technical people and investors to understand and execute the business operations in a better manner while having better insights to engage in smarter strategies to expand business horizons.

The event networking capacity included CXOs of Banking, Finance, Telco, enterprises, Startups, stakeholders of government sectors, trade facilitation and respective chambers. Further the event policy makers decision makes, architects and developers of the Digital Trade.
